Angie

My name is
Angelique Rautenbach

I am the youngest of 9 siblings from a blended family. I am a mother, wife and nursery school teacher, breastfeeding consultant, doula and child care educator. I have 3 amazing children, also a blended family, and a wonderful husband. I owned my own nursery school for 8 years and wrote all my own curriculims. Children were my passion from a very young age and I am very passionate about what I love.

how did i get into this profession

I knew from a very young age that I absolutely loved and adored babies. I was always the one teen who would rather hang out with the babies and toddlers, at events, always offering to hold or take care of babies for parents only too happy to get a break. As in every aspect of life, we are gifted with talents from God. This is my gift, my talent. Besides my absolute fondness for babies, I realized very soon that it was much more than that. I could just hold a crying infant for a minute, and I would know instinctively what was wrong, or needed. I have over the years, learnt to hone in on this, and have on many occasions made such a huge difference in the children's lives. Starting out as an Aupair I learnt so much, but I grew so incredibly attached to the babies I took care of, that I could not take the heartache of having to say goodbye. At 25 I became a mom myself, to my beautiful now almost 22 year old son. Shortly after he was 6 months old, I became a 'Mom's and Babe's' and 'Aquatots' instructor. I also did baby massage courses, and milestone and early development courses. I loved working with the mom's and dad's that brought their babies to class. It was so enriching to be able to share in their growth and milestones with them. When my son was about 2 I had my own photography business, did baby stimulation classes and taught moms how to do baby massage. When my son was 6 years old, I met my husband, who was divorced and had this beautiful blue eyed little 3 year old daughter. We married 5 months later, and 2 years later welcomed our own beautiful little baby girl into our blended family. When she was 2 years old, I built and opened my own nursery school. It was a dream come true, and I can say that I loved each and every one of the little people that came through my doors. Whether it was for a week, a month or 5 years. Selling my school was one of the hardest choices I ever had to make, and I did it only because I was offered a teaching opportunity in Germany. At the end of the day, we did not make the move and instead settled in Gordons Bay in the Western Cape. In the last few years I have taken some time to write my book - 'Instinctive parenting - Unboxed'. In this easy read, book you can find all the topics that I cover in my workshops. I have also taken my passion a little further by becoming a Doula, and being available to share, love and support moms through this most wondrous journey of birthing and parenthood.
